Estonian President on YouTube

15 Dec 2008

Estonian president Toomas Henrik Ilves did the first EU’s presidential videocast, when he launched his video blog on YouTube last week.

His first post was five-minute rebuking chat to the nation on Estonian economy and budget issues. Following posts will propably also have English subtitles.

People in Estonia say Ilves did OK, but (unfortunately) he was not the first president to address messages to his nation through videocasts. YouTube was one of the “great PR weapons” of Barack Obama during the US presidential election campaign.

Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor has previously spoken with the Germans via YouTube. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev launched his videocast in October, but via official Kremlin website.

Estonia, the e-country, where most of the banking and tax declarations are done online, also has interactive embassy in Second Life.
